I had a feeling that yesterday after update it was easier to beat grim 5.
I won even when I lost one of my first cards (instakilled) - it never happenned before. (I use hero vigor level 8).

I did 5-6 tries overall if iirc to get it done yesterday. Used one evolved wolf, one evolved niddhogg and 3 lvl 10 nidhogg. Only one nidhogg had hp rune. Judgment earth's embrace lvl 6 and lvl 6 hero vigor rune.
Rip needs to be avoided unfortunately, and ofc dont put any of the nidhoggs under the one with the chainstrike ability. Would probably be easier with more hp runes on crits and higher lvl of earth embrace.

youtu.be/it-2m5_J-80Based on Skippy's set up i made my own one, some gems are needed: Judgement lvl 5, i use a hero vigor V lvl 6 but a lower one can be used, no talents needed. X5 nidhoggs lvl 10 with vitality V lvl 5 Sacred wolf lvl 10 with vitality V lvl 5 50% hp boost(not sure at all but can be lower) (I guess if you have protection on judgment the runes aren't needed) The only draws that screws everything is if rip is on the first 5 or 6. I do one try when hero hunter was on the last 4 cards so he activates it and win anyway.

Okay guys. With some guildies using Sacred Wolf, and analysing the conditions to win this concept, there's a couple specific points that one needs to cover to have the best win rate they can get.
First: to win with a five card deck the most consistently, judgements level plays a part here. Five cards at 360 heal(lv5), only recovers 1800 life on a pyre/tempest/Thor's Rage / toxicity cast, and only 720 on a picking off, and soul eater hits the Wolf for 750 damage. This indicates that judgement lv5 is an absolute minimum, and a 440 heal(lv7) is safer, as it will outdistance the pyre hits of 900 damage.
Second, when a card gets battle set, it is going to hit your card for 4000 damage, and judgment only heals 360 back, so ideally, your card has enough life to absorb not just the 4000, but also up to a pyre hit of 900 damage with only 360 hp heal between the two, making the minimum life each card has set to about 4800 life minimum. Four Nidhogg, with base life of 2000, get 4000 life here, a neander vigor plus all vigor boost of about +300-400 life combined with vitality runes of +200-300, PLUS the first cast of protection should accomplish this. Protection after the first round is just gravy.
Finally: the cards to track are instakill, rip, and hero hunter, all for how each can sabotage your setup in different ways.
Last note: if you happen to have lots of Nidhogg laying around and noting else to do with them, an i9 Nidhogg will defeat the rip card most of the time and i10(not that it's practical to do that) will negate the rip card, leaving hero hunter ( one frost armor Nidhogg for that one) and the instakill card(yolo a stoneskin meld on sacred Wolf) and one can increase the win rate on this deck to far better than 50/50.
Sacred Wolf + Judgment FTW guys!!

I've always tried to keep my posts in this thread for those that have moderate stuff, But still, a 40% skill resist would definitely make judgment require a lower level, like 4/5 I would imagine. Also, yes, an i9 Tauro elder would be good, but the totem 7, loses a little HP bump, so you may have trouble with using more than one. Also, being four star, has lower life and is in danger of being killed by battle set. Try to offset that with a few extra levels on your vitality rune. Really good points too Cozy, thanks bro!

I'm hoping judgement level 3 is possible as I've got a long ways to go for any method. I don't want to make an i9 nidhogg, but I'd be okay with making an i9 Tauras elder. Even if it bumps success from 50% to 66%, that's meaningful.

Even if it bumps success from 50% to 66%, that's meaningful. Right, so if we do quick math on the pyre skill hitting a 900(out of 1000 maximum) damage, the skill resist would drop that nasty bugger to 540 damage. Since judgement 3 is 320 heal, if your creature gets nailed with battle set (4000 damage), and healed 320 life, only to get hit by that 540 damage pyre from the very next card, then 4800 hp should be able to absorb that and recover without much trouble. I think it should work for you Cozy. Best of luck my friend. Also, the i9 thing isn't required, it just let's you try to win against a setup where the rip card is in the first five, when the basic setup will automatically lose in that case. Hope this helps bro

Little update Tip on using the sacred wolf setup. Watch out for the sweeping blow card, if it gets a battle set buff and the right conditions are met, you may lose a card, and subsequently lose the attempt.
Frost armor can help that of course.

I know this thread is about 5* protean grimoire but I am having difficulty with even the 4*. I didn't want to make a new thread. Can someone tell me an easy set up to beat it. I don't have judgement. Only Predator at level 7.

Only Predator at level 7. You just need hero vigor 5 rune at least level 6. You wait with placing your creatures until round 9 and your hero should survive - you can auto it.

Do you have some tips for protean lvl3? I tried with Predator9, Dragonlord, 2xHanuman, Oracle, Thalassa, 2xAsh Beast, 2xHB (1x rec2), Treant Elder. It works in auto for lvl2 challenge but not for lvl3... Predator and his Grizzli can absorb a lot of dmg but it's not enough.. HB are killed to fast, Oracle is not meld and is killed fast too, Dragonlord remains until Predator's end. I am quite limited with runes (no 5*), I have just equipped healing 3* lvl4 and faen vigor 3* lvl4. I have nothing better.

I am quite limited with runes (no 5*), I have just equipped healing 3* lvl4 and faen vigor 3* lvl4. I have nothing better. Looks like your missing an important point of this challenge - no recycle! Protean grim is all about hero HP. Use mass heals and creature hp boosts, perhaps bless 7 frost rager. If you can get down a FA crit on your first play, then add 3 more the next turn. Hope you have the heal/hp boosts (eg. bunch of oracles) to survive. If you have enough hero HP, you can try the 4* technique - do not play a crit until after round 10, then auto. You should still have a card in hand for the last round, providing your predator didn't die. Keep drawing runes, you should get a Hero vigor V sooner or later. A IV or decently levelled III should work here. You should have a good level hero vigor for your main deck to use (can swap it in and out just for the challenge - you should have plenty of gold to spare).

Thanks for your answer.
I thought I had enough heal boosts (hanuman, oracle, ash beast etc.) with this team but it was not enough.. I don't have more powerful healers and all my crits die after few rounds that's with I am using recyclers..
I haven't thought about the 2nd strategy, thanks.. I doubt it will work with my actual cards.. I don't have enough blessing crits.. I am farming Oracle to meld something (maybe i9) on it..

yeah, hanuman is not a great healer as he targets just one crit.
The second method doesn't require any specific creatures to work, only hero HP. Better crits doesn't really help much as they will likely die quite quickly (the longer you can make them survive the less hero HP you will need). Try some FA crits that might not die straight away. Bless will help too, even if you only get a couple of rounds out of them
For ProtIV you need a hero vigor V@lvl5 - so perhaps you can get away with a good level hero vigor III for ProtIII
