I'd like to share some experience in building deck for this game, or atleast how I see deck building. This guide is based on auto game play. Manual gameplay adds more complexity and being more lenient to the hand as well.
Now, this guide is based on the following:
A particular deck may win against a/few particular types, but not against others / some. (There is no, ultimate win all deck, but we'll discuss this later)
Look at your opponent deck, analyze their attributes, and see how you can win against them by constructing a deck that have one or more attributes higher than the opponent deck.
A deck can also have few or more of these attributes at a very high level, but not all to be effective.
For example, a deck constructed for Disable, may have high offensive power with combinations of disable cards and physical attack cards such as gabroid and some undying capabilities. But it won't have much defensive capability, for certain type of attack such as magic, and may be beaten by deck with higher disable deck or high defensive attributes deck.
Examples:
A deck that has high offensive power can be beaten with deck that have higher defensive power.
An undying deck can be beaten with deck that have higher undying capabilities.
To win your opponent deck, you must have a deck with higher attributes that counters your opponent deck.
Deck Attributes (Very Low, Low, Average, High, Very High)
1. Offensive
Ability to deal damage to cards opposite, and other cards on the opposite team. Sweeper cards such as gabroid, swordmasters, and magic damage dealer such as phoenix or pit minion boost this capability as they can do multiple damage. Cards that have battleblow, sneak, or any other attributes that could enhanced damage will increase this attribute in the deck as well.
2. Defensive
Ability do negates / reduce damage taken. This includes heal capabilities, frost armor cards, dodge, stoneskin and immunity. Some notable defensives are reflect skills on some cards.
3. Undying
Ability such as recycle, revive and ressurect fallen cards in the graveyard. Notable boost to this attribute are Mortii's heroes, Hippolyta, Dahlia and Great Mystic. Having any of these 3 cards would boost your gameplay tremendously, as this attribute would be much higher than the rest of common deck.
4. Magic
Ability to deal either Poison, Fire, Lightning and Freeze. Cards such as phoenix, pit minion, pegasus lord will increase this type.
5. Physical Attack
Ability to deal physical attack to one or multiple creature. Cards such as gabroid, Royal Knight, Royal Dragon, The Twins are famous for this.
6. Disable
Ability to prevent one or more card to fully function on their next move. This could be either Paralyze attack, freeze, delay, and discord.
7. Instakill
Ability to instantly kill / dispose the opposing side cards whether on board, or whilst at hand. Cards such as Balthazars and hellwolf are good at this.
Melding, why it's dangerous.
Complexity to the attributes added with Meld as it will boost a card with one or more attributes.
For example, a Frost armor melded with Techno Chief or Royal Knight will drastically boost the defensive attributes of the deck.
Battleblow melded with Gabroid will tremendously boost the offensive power further ahead.
Sacrifice 8 skill from Venom Tyrant will boost both offensive and defensive.
Over Power
There is no ultimate deck that could win all. But there are just simply deck that have all around better cards than are powerful enough to beat most other cards.
An example of this would be, any of 5* cards, would easily beat 1-2* deck cards single-handedly for most of the time. The same scenario still happens even in a 4-5* deck battle. An all around better cards will provide way higher deck attributes than the other, and hence will just win either way.
Let's try analyze the top deck from my arena
Berseker lvl 8 w/ Aura 8, Spiky bits 8, Full Alert 9
Abaddon meld FA 3
The Twins meld FA 5
The Twins meld sac 8
Gabroid meld Venom Edge 8
Paragon
Horned Beast Meld Recycle 2
Pontiff Meld Revive
Oracle Meld FA3
Titania Meld FA7
Tidal Siren Meld FA7
Offensive: High - 2x Twins, Gabroid, Abaddon, Titania
Defensive: Very High - Pontiff, Oracle, tons of FA on this deck + Full Alert 9 and Spiky Bits
Undying: High - Recycle 2, Revive, and Rebirth Tidal Siren
Magic: Average - Abaddon, Tidal Siren
Physical Attack: High: Gabroid, 2x Twins, paragon
Disable: High - Gabroid, Paragon, Tidal Siren, Abaddon
Instakill: Very Low (non existent)
This deck wins by having really high defense, high disable, high undying ability and enough offensive power to clear the board that probably beat most other deck.
If I want to create a deck that potentially could beat this deck, I would probably try create a deck that have some instakill and really high offensive power with some defense. With my current cards I cannot beat this deck, as I don't have collections of cards that would have that attributes.
Beating this deck might requires card that I don't have, hence would be really tough for me. But let's see which attributes that we could exploit.
Their defense are mostly using FA, some immunity, stoneskin and spiky bits. Well, spiky bits ruled out magic damage for auto play. We'll need cards that could break through FA. This may be done by runed battleblow cards. 2 Gabroid with battleblow8 and runed, and adding 1 more sac 8 gabroid or sac 8 twins, or a centaur chief with FA might help. I might put in some flaming cards as well on the table to help, as it could help with FA. For this purpose, Undying will might work best, especially with its instakill as well.
Since I want have high undying capability, I might be using Wight as the hero, as he could provide me with some offensive, and defensive, especially with Cripple, undying, and his hero skill. Adding my 2 recycle 1 card meld would help putting my undying capability on par with their deck of 1 recycle 2 and revive.
Their disable is high, with mainly disabling physical damage attack. Countering this would need immunity creature, but I might just try to ignore their disable attributes for now. We are aiming for an auto deck, so I might try to negate this by having high enough offensive card that could clear them to avoid them stacking up.
So now my 'ideal' deck look like somewhat:
Wight - Cripple, Undying
Gabroid - BB8
Gabroid - BB8
Gabroid - Sac 8
Undying Will
Horned Beast - Recycle 1
Harbinger - Recycle 1
I have space for 4 more cards. Problem with this current one is that, it does not have enough defensive attributes. They're all paper. So we'll need to add some more defensive creature to help out with. Maybe I'll swap Gabroid BB8 with an FA gabroid, and add more defensive creature.
For the rest of 4 slots, I'll add
Death Knight, picking off and rebirth 2 timer sounds good.
Oracle FA
Pit Dragon
Magmus
So now, my deck becomes:
Wight - Cripple, Undying
Gabroid - BB8
Gabroid - FA
Gabroid - Sac 8
Undying Will
Horned Beast - Recycle 1
Harbinger - Recycle 1
Death Knight
Oracle FA
Pit Dragon
Magmus
Something is still off, it doesn't feel like I have enough defense on this. But at least I've got a higher offensive attack, and may have a chance to win.
(I need more 5*s and more cards to meld)
What do you think? does this deck have a chance to win against that top deck?
What deck would you build using your current hand to win against the deck above?
