I notice many high end players meld recycle 2 on their Octavius. Why? I thought revive was superior in all forms at high end play. When would recycle be more useful?

To get revive cards back in your deck. This. Revive-cards can not revive reach other. When u have the foxy dou melded with revive, u can drop recycle.

Yup. If u dont have revive on any crit your fighting an uphill battle. Same as magical or lockdown crits. Just useless in the high end game. Revive,, bullseye immunity direct damage and something that scales the hero rage. Very little strategy. Oh and almost forgot spend $$

I guess your question is why meld recycle 2 on Octavius and not meld revive on Octavius. I believe the reason is because of the high cost of Octavius. If you meld revive on Octavius, then your other revive creature on the field cannot revive Octavius. It has to be another recycle creature to recycle Octavius back into your hand, and then you wait for the draw and wait for the 8 turn. But if you meld Recycle onto Octavius, then your other revive creature on the field can revive Octavius from the graveyard straight into play, skipping the waiting time of 8 turn.

It's a pretty interesting debate between octavius' offensive and defensive capabilities. On the one hand, he doesn't die easy and essentially has stoneskin making him a perfect revive carrier. On the other hand he does absurd damage and is super important on the field, making him great to not have revive on.

As the first person to ever meld Revive onto Octavius (and receiving a lot of ridicule for it, that is until I started storming up the tournament ranks with him) and who also has a Recycle 2 Octavius, I have first hand experience with both.
Both are good. Revive Octavius is slow to get onto the field but once he's on the field, he's not leaving. If he goes down, you'll likely have lost everything else as well, so you're done anyway. In the days before equipment and Druidess everywhere, there were games where I lost everything else and a single revive!Octavius managed to turn the tide and win me the game. recycle!Octavius, meanwhile, works very well. It's slow to get onto the board, but it's a good last resort if your Recyclers go down.
If you have Unholy Rites, however, revive!Octavius is far superior to recycle!Octavius because you'll start cloning him.

Revive octavius + unholy rites. Whole different game. Honestly I don't think octavius should be be able to be cloned by unholy rites. His skill says he CANNOT be cloned. Regardless of wether or not it is a friendly skill vs an opponent skill it still shouldn't be a mechanic. I have requested a nerf on this in the past and they did nothing.

It may sound stuped but Unholy rights skill say "create duplicate" not clone,so i think they on that way made "difference" between those two type of skill, anyway i agree that it same thing making clone or duplicate but whatever you do they wont change that.
