I'm level 35 now having got Dragon Rider from the event on my second or third day of play (very lucky).
I use him for everything except raiding so far for which I use a 1 star Faen hero and occasionally in gauntlet.
I am approximately level 6 in all 3 skills and about to hit level 2 in the summon (9/10).
As made sense I've built a largely human deck around him. Now though I’m wondering what I should aim for with other heroes.
I assume I should do mines minimally (1 chest unless event) for a 5 star hero eventually (rather than a Mithril Drone)? After that though I’m unsure.
I’d like a human 1 star for raiding (best way to get this?)
I assume I should collect more Dragon Rider shards as a priority?
Medium term I assume I want to make Dragon Rider spec'ed for guild map but short term I use it for everything and prefer offensive skills like human might over hp?
Should I go for a second 4 star hero at all and if so what I gather I’ll need multiple heroes for tournaments eventually but that seems a long way off for now?
Finally, I plan to do 10 runes a day until I have all skills on Dragon Rider at 10 does that sound wise?
Note I’m ftp and plan to stay that way and my guild is high contribution but very low damage average (less than 15k average with a few 50-60k and most at 5 including me).
Thanks for any help I've read quite a lot but the guides seem to be a bit mixed due to recent hero nerfs in guild maps and focus on much later game than I'm at or complete beginner.

1. Doing the first chest in the mines is the most efficient, but some people go further in the energy mine. You may not have extra energy early on, and you probably don't have a stable source of gems unless you are p2w or star, so it's probably better leaving it at that for now.
2. Easiest way to get 1* human heroes is by buying einherjar shards in the bazaar, (5 shards for 25000 gold) or by collecting the shards you get from trials. The further you get in trials, the more of these you'll get.
3. Upgrading dragon rider will be hugely helpful in explorers maps, trials, gauntlet, and arena, especially early. I'd recommend getting it at least to level 5/6 and then deciding if you would rather focus on Berserker as a second summoning hero.
4. Dragon Rider is ok for guild maps early, but since Immolation is cleared by Mantra, other heroes will do better eventually. Most people use Berserker, Zora Marauder, or a 5* hero, but even Patriarch is decent with some levels.
5. You definitely want to go for a second 4* hero at least. Getting a 5* hero is still a long ways off at your level, and having multiple 4* heroes lets you have some variety for explorers maps, some extra attempts at gauntlet, and eventually extra decks for tournament. Keep in mind that a different set of 4* heroes is available from the trials shop then the gauntlet shop, so you can focus on Dragon Rider with gauntlet tokens, and focus on another with trials credits. Wight is still one of the strongest heroes in arena/tournament/explorers map play, and doesn't interfere with collecting DR shards. Devil Hunter and Paw Master are both useful as well, and while I consider Royal Guard the weakest among these 4, having a strong lineup of Human cards may make him desirable for you in the short run.
6. I would stop at level 9 skills most likely. You can get to level 9 minimum guaranteed, while getting a good level 10 skill requires a bit more luck. Also note that if you use Ice Shell (one of Dragon Rider's best defensive talents), the difference in levels is minimal, so I wouldn't even go that high with it.
7. There are plenty of guides on doing damage fairly easily in guild maps, and even if some of them are for higher leveled players, I recommend reading through them so you know what to focus on in the near future. Having a plan in this game is one of the most important things to progress constantly and improve faster than others. That said if you can only do 5k damage in a guild map, a simple way of getting some damage in with barely any setup is to get 10 creatures with ambush and equip them with a level 1 ambush rune. Due to the high max hp of guild map creatures, they should do 2k damage each, for an easy 20k damage. This should only be a very temporary solution, but 20k beats 5k, and these are pretty common creatures/runes.

Thanks very much.
I suspect i'll leap past 5 k very soon I unlocked runes this morning and while I do intend to level ambush creatures eventually I wanted to focus on a primary deck first. My current plan is to build a oracle focused human deck which seems to be one of the more common higher end strategies and should work ok with several of the heroes including Dragon Rider although I realise that he isn't the optimal one.
Just to confirm it seems you imply but didn't state that the Mithril drone should wait until after a 5* hero

I will get drone before 5* hero in the mines. Also I like mines very much and Im doing full energy mine every day (I'm level 94). If you have gems, I would do third mine for 5* shards and chance to 5* creature. I think is the best way to spend gems, specially now that we can get omni shards. For your human deck you should get paladin from exploring map 7. Also get horned beast from map 5, he is great. And not necessary to focus in 1-faction deck, you should add Thalasa at least. Finally, I would use most glory to get runes. And join a guild .

Thanks, also getting largely off topic but:
I am full exploring Paladin and Oracle shards daily as well as first Spider Queen but not second Thalasa or Horned Beast so far (my deck isn't mono faction I have Thalasa and the starting fire elf as well Nidhogg (from the 5 star guaranteed draw) ). I haven't unlocked far enough to do the 4th seal and plan to skip the 3rd as I want to save my oracles. I'll finish Spider Queen soon maybe tomorrow so I could do Horned Beast instead. Alternatively I could cut back on chambers (I need only the mats to evolve) and so put a lot of my energy into that. My plan was to do Oracle first and maybe Thalasa second?
For gems I bought 5 star draw and map 6 deck guide and am now saving for 5k gems at 2.5k. I had thought to buy human boosters is mine 3 chest 1 better?
I'm also getting a little nervous about maximum deck power I have already hit 6k and still go through gauntlet reasonably well but thinking about trying to hold at about 7k? Also should I reset guantlet daily or full clear (I think I can normally do about 10-12 level in 1 day and clear in 2-3 days (although my sample size is quite small)

I would never buy boosters, for me is a waste of gems. I think the best think you can do with your gems now is save them for next run of Alice's bond. If not, mines are the best option for me.
About gauntlet power I never have care about it, but usually people try to have <10k power. And is better to full clear than daily reset.
Oracle is very usable (guild maps, guild war, grimoire, etc) so you will farm it every day. Same with Horned Beast (you should meld recicle into him as soon as posible).
