I have an I9 pontiff, I Like it but if I had revive, I would rather have revive pontiff than I9.
For future reference, any mix of fa/immunity is solid.

Why is Pontiff such a popular Revive carrier? I can understand Fafnir since Immunity + Dodge makes it super tanky, but Pontiff seems susceptible to Instakills, Disposals, Magic dmg etc. Isn't some form of immunity / stoneskin (protection against non-physical attacks) very important?
(I don't have a revive, and am nowhere remotely close to any 5* meld - just trying to understand better)

Pontiff is a 4 timer and also has tankiness from frost armor. It is miles better than GM. Another reason its popular is because pontiff is easy to farm from map 1. Pontiff will be a safer carrier until you can farm enough copies of Fafnir or mimir tree. Also if you have many stoneskin / immunity creatures in your deck it will shield your pontiff and if anything happens your recyclers can always bring it back.

I guess for most F2P, slow-average players it will depend on which takes longer to find / farm - GMs or multiple copies of a good carrier. If GMs are much rarer, then it might be better to save it for a Fafnir meld to get the most out of it. If one gets lucky with GMs, then it might be better to meld off initial one(s) on to cheaper creatures like Pontiff for early benefits and slowly build up to Fafnir revives using the other GM(s).

Well, Fafnir is of course better- but Pontiff is far from a bad revive carrier. Like Voldrox said, it's a good carrier because it's one of the easier 5* creatures to reliably farm if you have a well-organized guilds. Any 5* with FA makes for a good revive carrier.
In honesty, any defensive skill whatsoever makes a good revive carrier- for most people, the sole concern is copies- whatever 5* you have enough copies of, meld revive.
Once you get to the truly high level, you could always meld that revive on without too many cares. I have a revive Bloodletter and a revive Pit Dragon- they serve me well for now, and once I get enough copies of Fafnir/Mimirs or some other top-tier card, I'll meld them away without a second thought if I have no more Mystics.

Wow, I don't think I'll ever get to that point. I doubt I'll ever have enough 5* melded creatures that I'll be able to casually get rid of one to upgrade the carrier of a skill, even one as OP as Revive... But I'm a pretty conservative player and hate any form of wastage

Pontiff cost is low for a 5* as well. Can help if you have cost issue.

Well im just going for i9 because i dont seem to get gm used ALLOT gems on boosters and never gotten one! Clossest to gm i am is 1 shard i got from mine. And with i9 he is allmost invincible with some mass heal in my deck he will only be killed by bullseye and death curse so the boosts he gives to my field will stay a long time.

I got a great mystic from gem mine chest. The expensive one but only the first chest. Costs 350 gems for one go. Better value than booster

Pontiff cost is low for a 5* as well. Can help if you have cost issue. Because of mines oceanus will be quite popular soon. If we take this into consideration pontiff will be even better rev carrier soon. But like people already said pontiff pros are low cost, low timer and great support/defence skill set. Rev pontiff is also very versatile and fits in many decks. Cant think of any other good melds for him than rev and I9. I would use my I9 to some other creatures though.

I like to run an FA revive, and immunity revive. Kind of a best of both worlds. So pontiff, and tree or fafnir is ideal.

Agree wholeheartedly with this, different types of revive (or recycle) are crucial to create decks capable of dealing with all threats. If one revive is vulnerable, you need your other one to pick up the slack.
